War and some facts for the factually impaired Conservatives

History and information is critical for average citizens to make informed decisions.

SO HERE ARE SOME FACTS

The reason to educate people is they supported a foolish war without knowing facts and this war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of innocents being killed in war we did not need.

I wish to make these comments that most Americans choose to remain willfully ignorant about America’s duplicitous conduct of foreign policy vis-à-vis Iraq. I find most College students or people in this building here woefully uninformed of world affairs and very gullible. I have not worked at such a one sided place full of rightwing nuts before!!

That is the reason Bush and Cheney were able to drive fear into them in the post-9/11 world and try to brainwash people into think Iraq and Saddam was linked to the terrorists who attacked us here in the USA. Not one of them ever told the American public that 15 of the terrorist murderers were Saudis and not one of them was an Iraqi. As a University teacher when I challenge my students to discuss data and facts, they are flabbergasted at this revelation.

Bush and Cheney cleverly used the words “Saddam, terror, 9/11” to imply connections. And they used Colin Powell to utter lies at the UN. That is how The Bush Cheney regime manipulated our anger and fear of terrorism to attack Iraq under false pretenses.

CLINTON ONLY LIED ABOUT A personal transgression and they hate him for that while this man has created worldwide chaos by invading Iraq and not finishing the job in Afghanistan!.

FACTS TO PONDER Pay attention to the timeline.

1.The Dujail massacre he was found guilty of, (and executed) occurred in 1982. He was at war with Iran and there were many attempts by Iranian sponsored Shia groups to kill him. We did not care about it then.

2. In June 1982, REPUBLICAN President Reagan decided that the United States could not afford to allow Iraq to lose the war to Iran. President Reagan decided that the United States would do whatever was necessary and legal to prevent Iraq from losing the war with Iran.

3. In 1982, the REPUBLICAN Reagan Administration removed Saddam Hussein’s Iraq from the list of states supporting terrorism, despite credible information that Iraq was, in fact, still supporting terrorism against Israel because We (USA) preferred Iraq to Islamic Iran and Iraq was considered to be the “lesser of two evils” as far as American interests were concerned.

4. The world knew about this massacre and other atrocities at that time; most Americans choose to remain willfully ignorant about America’s duplicitous conduct of foreign policy vis-à-vis Iraq. I doubt if Republicans ever cared to talk about human rights or was even aware of previous actions of the USA in Iraq.

5.In 1983 Reagan sent Donald Rumsfeld as the special representative of the Republican Administration, to visit Iraq and establish business relations; and to procure multi billion dollar Oil contracts for Bechtel and other big American corporations while Saddam was violating the rights of his people and committing atrocities. As reported by the New York Times in August 2002: Though senior officials of the Reagan administration publicly condemned Iraq's employment of mustard gas, sarin, VX and other poisonous agents, the American military officers said President Reagan, Vice President George Bush and senior national security aides never withdrew their support for the highly classified program in which more than 60 officers of the Defense Intelligence Agency were secretly providing detailed information on Iranian deployments, tactical planning for battles, plans for airstrikes and bomb-damage assessments for Iraq.

6.In 1986, President Reagan sent a secret message to Saddam Hussein telling him that Iraq should step up its air war and bombing of Iran. This message was delivered by Vice President Bush who communicated it to Egyptian President Mubarak, who in turn passed the message to Saddam Hussein.

QUOTE from Wikpedia WebSource: “According to retired Colonel Walter Lang, senior defense intelligence officer for the United States Defense Intelligence Agency at the time, "the use of gas on the battlefield by the Iraqis was not a matter of deep strategic concern" to Reagan and his aides, because they "were desperate to make sure that Iraq did not lose." He claimed that the Defense Intelligence Agency "would have never accepted the use of chemical weapons against civilians, but the use against military objectives was seen as inevitable in the Iraqi struggle for survival"[4], however, despite this allegation, Reagan’s administration did not stop aiding Iraq after receiving reports affirming the use of poison gas on Kurdish civilians.”-End quote

7.So why was this sudden need in 2003 to punish Saddam for actions he committed with our acquiescence back then? Sudden rush of righteousness

8.In 1984, amidst the Iran-Iraq war that Saddam started, USA under Reagan reestablished diplomatic ties with Iraq and aided him in his war with Iran. This aid included superb intelligence, fire directional supp ort for Saddam’s Russian made Artillery, allowed American companies to sell dual purpose chemical weapons components, supplied trucks etc. (Iraq broke ties with us after the 1967 Arab Israeli war). SO IN THE YEAR HE WAS DOING ALL THE HORRIBLE &*() TO HIS PEOPLE WE GO BECOME HIS BOSOM BUDDY? Who were right? The ones like me who dared to warn of the consequences before March 2003 and dared to challenge the rationale for this war that created this mess, or the righteous tyrannical Rightwing College Republicans who wrote en masse supporting this war without taking the trouble to enlist and die for the country?

9. From 1983 to 1990, the U.S. government approved around $200 million in arms sales to Iraq.

God Bless America for raising ignorant people.

Religion and Politics my views

Religion and politics are two hot issues that make great topics for debate in the media. I have watched in amusement the debate everyday in our papers and our mainstream TV media over the past few weeks, on the asinine views of some legislative disclaimers on science texts.

Institutions of Higher learning are the place to air such views. Those of us who are doctrinaire or encumbered by dogma will take up a strong position on these issues because of their surroundings and nothing else.

It is a lot of fun, because everyone holding these position are convinced that their view is the only correct view, and the only view that matters, and that others who don't accept that are doomed to a not so salubrious afterlife! The hysteria of some of them amazes me.

I see heated views from all sorts of theistic faiths being aired these days. All these recent frenetic Christian views on condemning us non-Christians or agnostics to hell, (what is the zip code for hell anyways?), and similarly virulently anti-Christian arguments such as the one by a Professor Ismael , blaming Christians for all the world's atrocities are indeed food for thought, but they should all be viewed with a pinch of salt.

They are indeed eye openers but that does not make all of it factual. We need to filter fact from faith and that skillful ability comes with worldly experience, intellectual maturity, and a willingness to open our eyes and not be too judgmental. It does not emanate from the bully pulpit nor by paying obeisance five times a day to Deities turning in one direction or ringing bells or smearing ash on a forehead.

Expression of "offensive" views (Christian or Islam or any other faith) have every right to fair "air time" as non-offensive views.

I do not find religious views offensive no matter how extreme the threat of sending me to the hot place down under if I did not accept a certain way, though columnists think so occasionally.

I am convinced that the world is full of good and bad people of all organized faiths(and non-organized faiths too), and beliefs and that all of them are correct relative to their ideologies, and cultures and religions and that no matter how much anyone proclaims and insists that their way is the correct way, in the final analysis, it does not matter except for those venting their fury and want to drive fear into others. It is an avenue of expression that needs to be encouraged and not stifled.

It is heated, and I like the fact that you allow freedom of expression no matter how offensive or controversial a view is. Keep it up. Remember what Voltaire said. "I may not agree with what you say, but I defend to my death your right to say it".

My life philosophy is based on the following verse that I read everyday to enlighten myself. Let me share it with you but you do not have to accept it, (it is strictly a personal view), and you are not going to hell if you do not accept this verse either!

Do not believe in anything (simply) because you have heard it.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumoured by many.
Do not believe in anything (simply) because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
But after observation and analysis when you find that anything agrees with reasonand is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all then accept it and live up to it. -Buddha

War in Iraq

Something is quite wrong in the way we react to Arab deaths versus ours in a war ostensibly launched to “liberate” the oil rich nation. Western media continuously highlight only Hitler's gassing of the Jews - and since 2003, Saddam' use of poison gas to kill the Kurds of Halabja in 1982.

Britain was the first nation to use Poison gas against Iraqi people in the years from 1919 to 1921. The British mercilessly used their Air-force to carry out experimental attacks on people who Churchill said were “uncivilized Tribes" (I am strongly in favour of using poison gas which “spread a lively terror.”) when Iraqis rose against colonials. They slaughtered tens of thousands of Iraqis during that period.

British and American governments blocked the Iranian UN resolution censuring Saddam. Reagan lifted the US ban on Iraq as a nation sponsoring terrorism in 1982; and allowed US companies to provide components to Saddam’s chemical weapons program. The US helped Saddam with Fire Directional support, trucks, helicopters and other materiel to fight Iran.

In November 1983, Secretary of State Schulz raised concerns about Saddam using chemical weapons; in December of that year Donald Rumsfeld met Saddam and assured our government’s friendship and materiel support to Saddam’s regime!

These facts are critical to note in the context of the quagmire in Iraq and the propaganda efforts to tie 9.11 to Iraq where there was none. Saddam was hanged, but the British imperial officers who committed war crimes against Arabs faced no trial and made no headlines then!

Willing to pay a patriotic premium????

Jesus pronounced the following condemnation: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!” He condemned and illustrated their rapaciousness, their selfishness, their inward spiritual emptiness, and their emphasis on “scruple” while neglecting the “weightier” matters of justice, mercy, and faith.

Governmental data reveal 53% of our crops are harvested by Illegal immigrants.

Look around in Norman:

House builders voting conservative hire illegal immigrants keeping costs low, raising their profits.

Almost all the restaurants do too; we want to eat out cheaply?

All the builders here in OK are BIG REPUBLICANs; I don't see any of them in jail for using illegal immigrants to rack up profits in my sub division? Gosh what is wrong here?

Farmers and big agri-businesses hire illegal immigrants; we all expect cheap vegetables, cheap chicken and cheap beef? Where did you think your cheap spinach, salad and carrots come from ? Mostly from California from big Republican farming industries.

Patriots should boycott Restaurants using illegal immigrants in Norman.

When traveling we can demand all hotels certify that they do not hire illegal immigrants to clean rooms and toilets. When you go to Fiesta bowl DEMAND you see the green cards of the immigrant workers and REPORT the managers who use illegals. As Romney would say "it is not american"....ey?

Visit restaurants; but refuse to pay $12.99 for prime ribs/sumptuous rib-eyes; insist on paying $49.99 instead; tell them you are doing this on principle, and are willing to pay the patriotic premium.

Insist milk must come from an American cow whose teats were milked by a American workers only.

Insist the carrots and the spinach are certified free of illegal immigrants; start paying prices the Koreans and Japanese pay for beef. That is how we get serious.

ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY THE PATRIOTIC PREMIUM???????

Focusing only on their costs to the social services and health care systems while callously disregarding their significant contribution (whilst benefiting from it) to the GDP of all our states is racist and downright asinine.

Serious debate and policy changes must first penalize the big profiteers for using illegal labor.
Jesus did not throw out illegals at the temple; he tossed out the profiteering dove sellers, cattle buyers and money changers. Self proclaimed christians need to look at his actions. "My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations?' But you have made it a den of robbers!"
HUCKABEE is now caving into the Evangelicals and starting to sound like Romney(who used illegal immigrants). I thought he was at least sincere in his belief that giving aid to children of illegals born here was the Christian thing to do.

SO HERE IS WHAT YOU PATRIOTS WHO WANT TO SECURE OUR BORDERS SHOULD DO.

Turn in your FARMER PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS FOR USING ILLEGALS.STOP going to restaurants if they use illegals to clean dishes and the toilets to help keep food affordable for you students.

TURN IN YOUR BIG CONSERVATIVE "I want lower taxes, I want lower inheritance tax " House Builder who uses ILLEGALS who does not have a right to complain for getting paid less than fair market wages.

STOP demanding CHEAP FOOD including that CHEAP TURKEY AND CHICKEN you have this season. Chances are it was plucked, cleaned and bagged by an ILLEGAL immigrant working for CONAGRA or other BIG REPUBLICAN DONOR companies.

STOP going to Chilis, BJs, Applebees and other places in NOrman. STAY AT HOME

INSIST The STEAK is labled "illegal immigrant free" like how we demand that Tropical timber is labeled as renewable resources. REPORT YOUR REpublican god fearing Christian Neighbor who uses illegal house keeping staff.

REPORT the Hotels and MOTELS when you go for FIESTA BOWL if they are hiring illegals and INSIST that NO ONE should clean your linen and your toilets unless they are TRUE AMERICAN CITIZENS.

STOP THIS BULLSHIT RACE BAITING HYPOCRISY and try to emulate Jesus in real action instead of words.

I know Republicans will win on this issue because they appeal to the baser nastier instincts in us.
so now ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY A PATRIOTIC PREMIUM To secure our borders? I AM....

oh by the way for those moron Old Republican patriot chicken hawks in our faculty, IRAQ had NOTHING to do with 9.11. and it is Saudi Arabia and Pakistan that create these radical islamic terrorists(of course first check an effing map)before you foul up some other countries and inviting more and more hate and free recruits for Al-Qaeda bastards.

POSTED BYLEGAL IMMIGRANT citizen married to a Born in America citizen whose grandparents migrated here for the same reasons your ancestors came here too; to do work others did not want to do for the pay they got! Think about it. If your are not native american then no matter what your ancestors arrived here for economic prosperity or were forcibly dragged here in chains against your will so you can generate wealth for others who were immigrants too.. Did they get permission from the Native Americans?

Mission Accomplished

Open Letter to Chilcott the British Hypocrite High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

SENT BY SIMPLE SIMEON
YAKKALA

I have a few questions for the outgoing British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, who has become a great champion of human rights and the best ambassador of peace for the greatest non-violent nation on earth ; the nation that gave us the Magna-Carta.

1. Was there an attack by the British Army on a civil rights march through Derry, Northern Ireland, on 30 January 1972 that killed over 13 unarmed civilians during a march by the N.Ireland Civil Rights Association?

2. Did the English fight a cruel war against Irish Catholics since 1916; and did that war kill thousands?

3. Why did it take the British Government over 26 years to form the Saville Tribunal to investigate the massacre of innocent unarmed Catholic Irish by the predominantly English protestant army?

4. Why did the Widgery Tribunal held immediately after the massacre clear the Soldiers of wrong doing?

5. Why did it take 26 years to establish another tribunal (Saville Inquiry) and why did that panel find the British forces guilty of human rights violations?

6. Why was there a cover up?

7. Why was Sir Michael Jackson, a captain in the 1st British Para regime implicated in this massacre appointed to head the British army?

8. How would someone who was accused of being part of a massacre like that end up becoming commander of the British forces?

9. Why did Conservative Prime Minister John Major reject the people's demand for a public inquiry into a massacre?

10. Were Irish Catholic sympathisers and IRA rebels ever tortured by the English Protestant army over the course of a horrible fratricidal 80 odd year civil war?

11. Why was certain evidence(such as original British Protestant led army photographs, original helicopter video footage etc., ) that day destroyed or made unavaiable to the public

12. Why were guns used on the day by soldiers lost by the British Ministry of Defence?

13. Why did the cover up go on for 1998?

14. Does it mean that 1998 is the year when the English Government made human rights a part of their charter?

My views on illegal immigration

I am of the position that IF Big Republican Businesses can hire illegals and make immoral profits, they are the firsts we should slam in jail.

Did you know 53% of our CROPS are harvested by illegal immigrants? Quick spit out that carrot harvested in California by an illegal working for a Republican Businessmen who is a subcontractor for another Republican who is another subcontractor..........

YET we don't think twice before reaching for that juicy steak slaughtered by an illegal that you can afford right?
How about that gallon of milk MOM?
How about that pound of tomatoes DAD?

IF you come to ANY subdivision check the Construction Companies. CHECK their crews. So how is it that we live the American dream for the most part? We buy a house because houses are AFFORDABLE right? Why is it that only some of us netting over 100,000 are not the only ones with a house? how is that the guy making 25,000 also owns a 150,000 dollar house? Hmm, queer thoughts huh?

IF YOU ARE SERIOUS, then BOYCOTT EVERY FRIKKING restaurant(Chilis, BJs, Applebees, MCDonalds) who have subcontractors who have subcontractors wh ohave subcontractors with illegal crews.
How about that lawn care service?

How about your Mom and Dad who may own a small farm?

So YES I think we need a change but dont be so hypocritical next time you devour that Steak.

ASK THE question" Hey Manager, was this Steak slaughtered by an AMERICAN worker in an AMERICAN factory with an AMERICAN WORKER"?

OR

do the same when you go to Walmart and ask if the gallon of milk came from an American cow who had her tits squeezed by an american worker or was it done by an illegal worker who is NOT here to rob or blow bombs but doing the dirty stuff that needs to be done so we can have a better standard of living.

Now that is what Jesus would do?

Then come up with feasible practical ways to combat it. I believe in plurality and IF the bulk of the people want a wall and vote for it, then that is how a democracy will work.

But I won't vote for a wall. But I can live with it because I think thanks to my wife's income we can afford a 30 dollar steak(it is not good for us anyway). BUT THINK THINK, WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

My diehard Caucasian Republican neighbors use illegal maids and lawn care companies with illegals.( WE USE AN AMERICAN Man with an ALL AMERICAN CREW to mow our lawn).

Come check out the construction crews and ask their owners which party they vote for and what their political views are. ALL OF them almost say CONSERVATIVE, Christian Republican. TOUCHE'

I of course part of the reason is that capitalism has FAILED in Mexico along with Catholicism which doe not promote birth control because it views that as a sin. So the dilemma of poverty and more poverty combined with jobs here in the US are all reasons for it. But then What do I know? I am a Macaca!!As Jesus said "Let those without sin be the first to cast the stone".

I SAY DO NOT EVER EAT OUT IN NORMAN AGAIN. DO NOT PAY 7.99 for a RibEye at Walmart. INSIST ON PAYING 25.99.SO on that rant here is a superb article writen by an AMERICAN.

By Ruben Navarrette Jr.Special to CNNSAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- A reader wrote in to complain about illegal immigration, not exactly a rare occurrence. He was concerned about his tax dollars paying for services for illegal immigrants.Ruben Navarrette Jr.: If you hire illegal immigrants, don't complain about what they costing you in tax dollars.Never mind that he is probably being subsidized by the very phenomenon that he refuses to subsidize. And I'm not talking about the price of tomatoes. If his town is home to a hotel, restaurant or other business that relies on illegal immigrants and then pays taxes and pumps money into the local economy - money that goes to pay for police, fire, sewage etc. -- it will wind up benefiting Mr. Don't Use My Tax Dollars. The reader offered a scenario -- "Where you hire people to clean your toilets, they decide to stay in your house and they bring friends. You end up paying for their schooling and other privileges."You see the problem: "Where you hire people to clean your toilets." Hmm. These people are here illegally, and yet you hire them to clean your toilets, reserving the right to bellyache about them and what they're costing you. It's the first act -- hiring illegal immigrants -- that sets the rest of the story in motion. I have a solution: Clean your own toilets, or at least make sure that those who clean them for you are in the country legally. Or, shut up already.Sometimes you need to give it to people straight. I wish that former Mexican President Vicente Fox would have dished up some straight talk to CNN's Wolf Blitzer during an appearance last week in "The Situation Room." There to promote his new memoir, "Revolution of Hope," Fox fielded a question from CNN's Lou Dobbs delivered via videotape. Dobbs wanted to know why the Mexican government can't come up with policies that reduce poverty in Mexico so it doesn't have to continue to export its poorest people into the United States. Watch former Mexican President Vicente Fox talk about immigration with Wolf Blitzer »It's not that simple. Mexico has now had just seven years of democracy under the rule of Fox's National Action Party -- following on the heels of more than 70 years of corrupt governance at the hands of the Institutional Revolution Party. The United States has had more than 200 years to get democracy right, and it still has to work out the kinks now and then.Blitzer asked Fox to respond to Dobbs and asked why so many Mexicans want to come to the United States. The host suggested that it's because this is a country of immigrants.Again, not that simple. Oh, it's true that the United States is a country of immigrants. But in this case, what matters is that this also happens to be a country full of people who hire illegal immigrants. There is only one reason why so many Mexicans want to come to the United States: because there are so many jobs waiting for them here. Some Americans still prefer to blame Mexico for illegal immigration. Of course, why wouldn't they? That sure beats taking their share of responsibility for it.Ruben Navarrette Jr. is a member of the editorial board of the San Diego Union-Tribune and a nationally syndicated columnist. sad truths

"I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,"-Alan GreenspanInteresting on the attitudes and the racist behavior that still exists when we invade other nations and fuck them up, kill at will and then cry foul "We are the good guys"
READ THIS FIRSThttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20892483/site/newsweek/

Mercenaries now politically correctly known as "Security Contractors" are a special breed of vermin in any war. They play for money. They are hired by all sorts of bad folks and ostensibly by good folks too. No one seems to give a shit here on the chaos we have caused in Iraq. No one gives a shit that there are two million refugees in Syria and Jordan because of this mad man's war. The man who said "I speak to the higher father", A man blinded by stupid religious fervor is as bad and dangerous to the world as the nutjobs who claim they have a monopoly on virtue to launch holy wars. The rest of the world, sees us as being as dangerous as the terrorists. They see us as being arrogant, unilateralist military adventurers who only want to see the world the way we see it. When we have a leader suffering from delusional behavior it is no surprise that some of you goosestep to his Wagnerian beat.

You think everything everything he says is the Gospel truth.Isolated Americans specially in the conservative heartland claim to be christian, yet they dont seem to care about the chaos utter world wide destabilization caused by us invading Iraq. The terrorists have gathered thousands of recruits because of it. Thousands want to fight us because we are foreign occupying force in Iraq. We can twist it, we can lie and our politicians will misuse and manipulate even honorable Generals to say what they want to hear. But ultimately as my superior experiences show, no matter even if the army is a local army, when it causes civilian casualties and it goes about arrogantly not caring for the people they are supposedly there to protect(read the history of the Indian Army Peace keeping force in Sri Lanka you fools) and (read also how SL army had to change their tactics too), it boomerangs back on us. The rage people feel when they are forced to cower when strangers with guns break their doors and drag their women and children is a world wide phenomena. Be it in N.Ireland for 80 odd years, be it in Sri Lanka or now with our mercenaries in Iraq.

I think the baseline is the racial bigotry and the callousness of people who dont give a shit. I think it is because somehow we think the oil under their sand is only our god given right and therefore I should be able to drive my fucking Cadillac Escalade or my fucking Hummer getting gallons to a mile and sacrificing soldiers per gallon that is causing this indifference. The same sort of indifference that existed before Vietnam spiralled out of control. And now this man wants to start another war? Please read this URl. Specially the ignoramuses who believed every crock of shit manipulated lie in 2003 and wanted to "'kick Arab ass" or the ones who conveniently avoided going to Vietnam when they could but now say "If I were young enough, I would don the uniform and go to Iraq". Please dont insult my limited intelligence.

The world will be far more unstable and we will be open to far more attacks EXACTLY because we invaded and ruined someone else's country on a holier than thou pretext.

All one has to do is look at recent history. The U.S. chemical warfare against the Vietnamese people killed many thousands, and left a legacy of an estimated 500,000 children with serious birth defects (Peter Waldman, “Body Count,” Wall Street Journal, 12 December 1997). Overall, upwards of 3 million people were killed in the U.S.’ counterrevolutionary war on Vietnam, plus another 2 million in neighboring Cambodia and Laos. This horrendous death toll was justified with overtly racist arguments. The commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, General William Westmoreland, claimed that, “The Oriental doesn't put the same high price on life as does a Westerner. Life is plentiful, life is cheap in the Orient” (Far Eastern Economic Review, 21 April 1975). The same grotesque arguments are used by the apologists for the U.S. imperialist invasion of Iraq today.

History of Iraq, Some more facts people should know. . The weak liberal media failed because they didn’t possess a backbone to ask the hard questions prewar. Our media failed us all because they didn’t want to be excoriated as being anti-American post 9/11. They failed because of obeisance to a regime. They failed because they didn’t want to appear unpatriotic in view of intimidating Goebbelsian propaganda from the regime’s right-wing media supporters. To this date, the liberal media ignores that the war in Iraq has caused the biggest refugee crisis in the Middle-East since 1947; there are nearly 2 million innocent Iraqis languishing in camps; most of them in Syria (a country we continue to keep bashing and refusing to talk to). Nearly 4,000 of our soldiers are dead; over twenty six thousand maimed for life. The British Medical journal LANCET estimates over 654,000 excess deaths in Iraq; conservatively nearly 30,000 are dying annually. Iraq has created millions of sympathizers, scores of willing recruits for extremists groups in the Arab world in a country where there wasn’t Al-Qaeda before. Those expressing caution were insulted before March of 2003 and derided by some political parties.

They accused those who knew facts about Iraq by saying they supported terrorism for opposing the invasion. Our media never challenged the leaders; they betrayed democracy more than the government did. However, given that most people view that thick gooey substance that is deposited beneath the Asian sands of Arabia is our God given right to own and control as we deem fit, and because resent the Arabs for having it in such mother lodes, it behooves us to examine some historical facts so that we will not repeat the mistakes of the past again by launching anther attack on the Persian Iran. History is being repeated in Iraq. British troops are finally leaving and limiting them to barracks in the Shia South in Basra. It's their third such departure from Iraq in the past 100 years. Their previous two departures were ignominious, to say the least.

The lies and deception the Blair government resorted to justify its decision to join Bush's war now stand exposed. Blair claimed that Saddam possessed weapons that threatened the security of Britain and the West. He also said that these weapons could be assembled in 45 minutes. Blair's claims were disproved one by one. Dr. David Kelly, a top scientist attached to Britain's Ministry of Defence, allegedly passed information to a BBC reporter, saying that the government had hyped the dossier against Iraq. Kelly knew what he was passing to the media. He did not want to be a part of a war that was not actually Britain's war. But within weeks of the BBC story, Dr. Kelly's body was found in a thicket. The official version was that Dr. Kelly committed suicide.

Britain's links with Iraq harks back to the World War I plot formalized in the form of a secret Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916, under which European imperial powers (read robbers or plunderers) -- Britain and France -- agreed to share West Asia after the Ottoman Turks were defeated. Four years later, in terms of this agreement, Iraq came under Britain, with the League of Nations- providing a veneer of legitimacy. Jordan, Iraq and Palestine came under British mandate whilst France got Syria and Lebanon. Naturally, the Colonial “civilized democracies” didn’t bother to consult the populations of the countries involved. The birth of Iraq was presided over by Winston Churchill , an arrogant, colonialist who to this day is honored as a “statesman” in western histories but his contempt and racist feelings towards non-white nations he ruled was legendary (he called Gandhi a “Half-Nakd Fakir”). In Iraq, the British installed a monarch, brought in from Hijaz, Arabia. His name was Feisal, son of Hussein, Mecca's sheriff, who betrayed the Ottomans and helped Britain during World War I. While Feisal was showcased in a palace, the pro-British Iraqi elite handpicked by the imperialists dominated the government, carrying out orders they got from the British Colonial Office and the British High Commission in Baghdad. When the Iraqis rose against their occupiers, they were brutally suppressed. The colonial officers used chemical weapons or poison gas to silence the resistance forever. At the time Churchill was British secretary of state for the colonies. Churchill gave Feisal the lands formerly known as Mesopotamia, lying between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, as a consolation prize. Repeatedly from 1919 on, the population of what is now Iraq rose up against the Hashemite ruler and his British patrons. In June 1920, a full-scale rebellion broke out. British garrisons were taken by surprise as the revolt spread throughout the lower Euphrates valley. In August, the insurgents declared a provisional Arab government. But by February 1921, the revolt had been crushed, with between 8,000 and 9,000 rebels killed. This was accomplished mainly through the use of air power, by the Royal Air Force (RAF), which mercilessly bombed the insurgents using incendiary weapons and poison gas. Before the outbreak of the rebellion, the RAF asked Churchill in 1919 for permission to use chemical weapons “against recalcitrant Arabs as an experiment.” Churchill as secretary of state for war asked experts if it would be possible to use “some kind of asphyxiating bombs calculated to cause disablement of some kind but not death…for use in preliminary operations against turbulent tribes.” He added: “I do not understand this squeamishness about the use of gas. I am strongly in favour of using poison gas against uncivilised tribes” which “spread a lively terror.” General Sir Aylmer Haldane wrote that poison gas was more useful against the hilly Kurdish redoubts, while “in the hot plains…the gas is more volatile” (quoted in Geoff Simmons, Iraq: From Sumer to Saddam [MacMillan Press, 1994]). In fact, the weapons used by the RAF in its “civilizing mission” against the “turbulent tribes” were quite lethal. The British cabinet was squeamish, but Churchill argued that use of gas should not be prevented “by the prejudices of those who do not think clearly.” Eventually, poison gas was used on Iraqi rebels, with what the illustrious “statesman” described as “excellent moral effect” (quoted in David Omissi, Air Power and Colonial Control. The Royal Air Force, 1919-1939 [Manchester University Press, 1990]). Today the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, successor to the Colonial Office, professes horror at the suffering of the Kurds under Hussein’s rule, which has “included the use of chemical weapons” (Saddam Hussein: Crimes and Human Rights Abuses [November 2002]). Yet this is the bloody history of the British imperialists who claim to be friends of the Kurds! In March 1917, the commander of the Anglo-Indian Army of the Tigris, Lt.-General Stanley Maude, issued a proclamation upon entering Baghdad declaring that “Our armies do not come into your cities and lands as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators” (Robert Fisk, “The West Has Been Liberating the Middle East for Centuries,” Independent [London], 7 March). This is the fiery hell the Colonial European “liberators” visited on the Iraqi people then. Fast forward history to recent times we all understand; In 1956, Saddam took part in an unsuccessful coup attempt against King Faisal II of Iraq . Two years later, a non-Baathist group led by General Abdul Qassim (or Kassem) overthrew the king. In 1959, Hussein and other Baath supporters tried to assassinate General Qassim. They failed. In 1963, the Baath Party assassinated General Qassim. Hussein returned to Iraq. Saddam’s Baathist party launched a coup and took power in Iraq from the previous military regime in 1966. Hussein became Deputy Chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council. This put him in charge of internal Iraqi security and gave him the number-two position in the Baath Party.

By 1973, Hussein was vice president of Iraq under benevolent dictator President Al-Bakr. Saddam was the Vice President under a fairly benevolent Al-Bakr until he took over in 1979. We all were happily doing business with all sorts of unsavory elements in the middle-east. Iraq’s economy flush wiuth oil cash was booming, while the US was arming Iran’s dictator, Soviets were arming Iraq(both sides armed and aided many brutal dictators around the world during the cold war as a necessity)and the country was a secular socialist model in a neighbourhood full of oppressive feudal kingdoms backed by us where no one raised concerns about democracy or human rights. Saddam was encouraged to attack Iran in 1980 because of perceived threats from Shia radicals in post Revolutionary Iran, where our puppet Shah was overthrown in 1979 and we lost the critical strategic toehold in Iran. Let us remind those who have constantly changed the rationale for the war against Saddam(he killed his own people) that when Saddam was allegedly killing people and gassing Iranians, Ronald Reagan sided with Iraq and so did others. In fact the crime for which he was tried and hanged happened at a time we actively did business with him! We only remained “neutral” on the surface and we did not care a tuppence about Saddam’s human rights violations then. It was the British and American governments that blocked the Iranian resolution to the UN asking it to censure Saddam.

Ronald Reagan lifted the US State Department ban on Iraq as a nation sponsoring terrorism in 1982. He actively allowed US companies to provide components to Iraq’s chemical weapons program. The US helped Saddam with Fire Directional support, Military trucks, and other materiel help to stymie the Iranianan Shia Islamic revolution from spreading to Iraq. In 1982, the US sent 60 Defender helicopters to Iraq and By 1983,(when most of the massacred occurred) the Reagan government allowed transshipment of arms to Iraq through friendly Arab conduits. In November 1983, our Secretary of State George Schulz raised concerns about Saddam using chemical weapons against civilian populations. In December of that year Donald Rumsfeld met Saddam and assured our government’s friendship and materiel support to Saddam’s regime; it must be noted, that most international human rights organizations(painted as liberal by our conservative politicians in OK) had soundly condemned Saddam and demanded action against him. By 1985, it became obvious Saddam’s incompetent Soviet style Army could not defeat Iran, and he was increasingly being criticized for his horrendous crimes, Ronald Reagan signed a secret order to allow Iranians to buy our weapons so that the stalemate and balance of power in the region would continue.

Our brave young lads fighting and dying there today may not know that Rumsfeld visited Saddam during that time to strike billion dollar deals for Bechtel. If Saddam was repugnant then, why would our government knowingly want to strike deals with one of the most oppressive dictators in the world? Now history shows us in fact George Bush’s war has in fact strengthened radical Shia domination and radical Islamic tendencies in a nation which was secular before that. Al-Qaeda gleefully stepped into the chaos we caused(as predicted) and entrenched themselves and found willing recruits in a place they had no place under Saddam because Saddam hated them and Usama hated Saddam equally and Saddam made sure he would kill anyone who threatened his regime including Islamic terrorists and Shia radicals. All this is now revealed in Congressional records and declassified documents and can no longer be ridiculed as liberal anti-war propaganda. With a quagmire that on average is killing 1800 Iraqi civilians a month, one must wonder if our callous indifference to the civilian casualties are because of our love-hate relationship with the Arab world; a world we never tried to understand or RESPECT, that is critical to our economic and national security interests simply because of what lies beneath their soil; however is our hate because of latent Churchillian tendencies in all of us? Are we viewing those as expendable lives because of racial prejudices? Or is it a repetition of the attitudes displayed during the Vietnam war? According to the Wall Street Journal of 12 Dec 1997, U.S. chemical warfare against the Vietnamese people killed many thousands, and left a legacy of an estimated 500,000 children with serious birth defects; upwards of 3 million people were killed in the U.S.’ anti communist war in Vietnam, plus another 2 million in neighboring Cambodia and Laos. Are we still thinking on the same lines?. Liberal western media highlight and re-highlight only Hitler's gassing of the Jews - and since 2003, Saddam' use of poison gas to kill the Kurds of Halabja. Saddam was ousted, hounded and hanged, but the Britsih imperial officers who committed similar war crimes in Iraq faced no trial and made no headlines then. . As Director Brian DePalma says “In Vietnam, when we saw the images and the sorrow of the people we were traumatizing and killing, we saw the soldiers wounded and brought back in body bags. We see none of that in this war." Even to this date most of us don’t seem to know that not a single radical Islamic evil terrorist who attacked us on 9/11 was an Iraqi.

What would Jesus do?

Truth hurts if you are a Republican Conservative Butthead

If we desire to know more about the real world and our policies, we would also find out that Osama bin Laden was among those involved in the Afghan resistance during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, and the Afghan resistance was referred to by former President Ronald Reagan as "freedom fighters." The resistance fighters got weapons and money from the United States to fight the Soviets. The policy was started during President Jimmy Carter's last year in office and continued through 1989.
We actively encouraged Islamic radicals to fight our proxy war. We used their intolerant Islamic views when it suited us, and dumped them once the job was done. The rest is history.

It also behooves us to know that 15 of the 19 Sept. 11 attackers were Saudi Arabian and not one was Iraqi.

The Iraqi invasion was launched by a predominantly white Christian force of American and British soldiers in an alien, oil-rich Arab secular nation, which has now, because of the invasion, become a radicalized safe haven and a training ground for Islamic extremists, who were not allowed to operate there during Saddam's secular tyranny. What we did is the reason the madmen of Islamic terror and Al-Qaeda are thriving and finding willing recruits to do their evil bidding now. They did not exist there before and now do.

No matter how a neo-con ideologue tries to spin it or lie to us, the insurgency is not in its "death throes." We may have to wait another 25 years or so before we liberate their abundant oil reserves.
